Our Journey to Buying a House in Hachimantai

When we first began our search for a house in Japan, we had a few key criteria in mind: a peaceful environment, a connection to nature, and, of course, a sense of community. After much deliberation and research, we settled on Hachimantai, a picturesque area known for its stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage. Our decision was not made lightly, but every step of the journey felt right, guiding us toward what we hoped would become our new home.

Why Hachimantai?

Nestled in the Iwate Prefecture, Hachimantai offers a perfect blend of tranquility and adventure. The region is renowned for its beautiful national parks, hot springs, and outdoor activities throughout the year, from hiking in the summer to skiing in the winter. As we explored various areas, Hachimantai stood out for its lush forests, scenic views of the mountains, and friendly locals. It seemed like an ideal retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Discovering Vacation Houses from the 1990s

While researching properties, we stumbled upon a unique opportunity: a cluster of vacation houses built during the 1990s. These homes had been lovingly constructed as getaways for families but were now on the market as their owners had grown older and no longer needed them. The nostalgia attached to these homes, coupled with their potential for restoration, sparked our interest.
